As you probably know by now, we showed our FW18 collection, Cosmic Dread on February 7th, 2018 at Toronto Fashion Week.
Hayley partnered with Microsoft to preview her collection in Window Mixed Reality (WMR) in store on January 30th and travelled to Microsoft headquarters in Redmond, Washington to be captured in 3D. This technology was on display at her show on February 7th in an introductory performance piece which featured model Will Lavinia (a performer and advocate for femme trans-masculine visibility) emerging from a giant 'eye-gina' sculpture and exploring the runway like an inter dimensional traveller.
Inspired by classic sci-fi and cosmic horror, Hayley’s FW18 collection ‘Cosmic Dread’ is an exciting new frontier for the young Canadian designer. The collection once again featured looks for women and men, in classic silhouettes and graphic prints but this season Hayley added another layer of intrigue. Her colourful prints appeared alongside a bevy of textural fabrics including faux fur, faux leather, plaid, shimmering metallic and faux snakeskin in a broader range of styles including outerwear and more utilitarian elements.
Playing up her inspiration, Hayley injected space-age design and themes of futuristic existentialism into her designs for FW18. “As technology continues to evolve at a rapid pace, I tried to imagine what HP Lovecraft would think if he was dropped into our society. We’ve made so many strides, but it seems like it is always two steps forward and one step back. We still have a shaky understanding of ourselves despite technological advancements and we need to look at social issues in real, concrete terms as opposed to trying to capitalize off of slogans.”
